What a bunch of hooey! I'll tell you who is being subsidized, those lazy clerks and mail handlers that think they have a job for life and can't be fired. It's about time the Postal Service did something to streamline the operation. Every business has to evaluate their operation and make the changes necessary to compete. The Postal Service is no different.

Once the consolidation is completed, the Postal Service needs to speed up the development and deployment of automation. A machine doesn’t call in sick or take smoke breaks or perform at such a slow pace that would amaze the private sector. It's not called snail mail for nothing. The American public deserves the best possible service at the lowest possible cost. Subsidizing a bunch of lazy postal employees is not good business. APWU has had plenty of opportunities to negotiate in good faith but has instead chosen to attack the service at every opportunity. How many APWU grievances are outstanding at this time? 300,000 nationwide? The APWU increases the cost to the Postal Service by submitting endless frivolous grievances that end up in arbitration that is costing the Postal Service millions of dollars. This cost is passed on to the public in the form of higher stamp process. The APWU isn’t about saving the American public anything; they are about lining their own pockets. Don’t be fooled by their propaganda. The APWU position is to get more for their members for doing less work. A more realistic negotiating position might be to ask for more money for doing more work, not less. What a concept! The best way to deal with the APWU is to automate them out of existence. That is in fact what is happening and the sooner the better for the American public and the Postal Service.
