Colorado Springs Post Office apologizes for poor downtown service
According to an article in the Colorado Springs Business Journal, the US Postal Service has apologized for poor service to businesses in the city’s downtown area. According to the story, local managers “initially said a reduction in the number of three downtown routes and carriers was the reason for the poor service”. The routes had been cut after inspections were carried out in the Spring, “an historically low-volume time.”
A USPS spokesperson told the Journal that steps would be taken to rectify the problem, including ”attempting to deliver all mail to business customers by 3:30 p.m. each day, providing additional postal staff to support timely delivery and re-evaluating downtown routes to ensure a high level of service”, as well as unspecified “changes to management”.

A route audit was probably done by some idiot who thought he knew better than the carriers that do the route every day. Give someone just a little authority and… Like a little kid, if you give him a hammer, suddenly a lot of things need hammering.

Larry, it is like this: Successful generals know in war, if they want to win battles, they want to know the effects their orders have on the soldier in the foxhole; so soldiers are encouraged to report problems to their leaders so the information can “bubble up” to the generals for corrective actions. In the postal service, it is the complete opposite; they do not want the letter carriers’ suggestions. For postal management, it is all about arrogance, intimidation, and a great big fat Christmas bonus.

Supervisors and management do not get bonuses.
They really are there to just save our jobs and make us a viable company in the long run.
They are not all bad and we should appreciate and applaud their efforts.

Management screwed up my city with their changes. They spilt up routes and didn’t give any travel time. On one route the regular didn’t carry an 1 1/2 hour section of their route –so somehow the computer didn’t give any street time to that part of the route. Another carrier got the over 150 deliveries with no added time to do them. They don’t know what their doing! The union has hundreds of grievances over the inspection my city alone.
Yes! They do get bonuses! They might call it pay for performance or something cute like that but if it walks like a duck — you know it’s a duck! It should be called — craft performs and management get paid. On top of their “bonus” pay last contract they got over 9% pay raise after fighting the crafts for around a 6% raise. The rich get richer! How about after they “negotiate” crafts raise the post office gives management the same raise.
