Gonzales defends Bush’s mail snooping statement

From last week’s hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee:

SEN. SPECTER: As you know, this committee was hard at work with legislation which I had proposed and others had co-sponsored and four hearings. And I think we could have been of assistance to you if we had been consulted.

Christmas cards take the long way…

“Today I got a Christmas card from some friends in Ohio…

Stamped on the envelope was a note from the U.S. Postal Service which read “accidently delievered to Phillipines.”

On the other side of the envelope was a stamp from the Japanese Postal Service which read “Misdirected to China.”

The blogger who received the card lives in Calgary.

Searching for a postal manual the other day, I came across a really handy resource from the APWU- their Industrial Relations web site has an extensive library of postal handbooks and manuals. Very handy if you don’t have access to the internal USPS library, or need to look up something from home.

FEMA finally gets around to disbursing ‘Heroes’ stamp proceeds

According to a story in the January 22 Linn’s Stamp News, the Federal Emergency Management Agency has “finally begun to disburse the more than $8 million that was raised by sales of the… Heroes of 2001 semipostal stamp.” It has been over two years since the stamps were last sold. According to Linn’s Washington correspondent Bill McAllister, New York Rep. Gary Ackerman, who announced the start of payments last month, said ”… the FEMA process was more cumbersome and took longer than I would have liked…”

What a surprise!
