Meeting Customer Needs in a Changing Regulatory Environment
The Postal Regulatory Commission and the Postal Service invite you to a conference to discuss how the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act could increase the Postal Service’s ability to meet customer needs. By focusing on the issues important to customers, the conference will continue the dialogue recently initiated by the Postal Regulatory Commission in its rulemaking process.

Another ‘Nigerian’-style scam
If you have an email account, you’re familiar with the infamous Nigerian scams involving fabulously wealthy individuals who somehow decided that they need your help to shift some funds around. But did you know there are similar scams involving eBay?
oh, what fun it is to….talk to the us postal inspector

Encounter with a mail truck in the bike lane
A blogger from Washington tells of his unpleasant experience with an LLV in the bike lane. It always amazes me when people driving very identifiable vehicles with company logos all over them drive like idiots, but a letter carrier in DC of all places?

Louisiana math (and gullible reporters)
The story from the Alexandria Town Talk about the possible closing of the city’s mail processing operation presents an amazing transportation anomaly. According to the story, moving mail processing operations down the road to Lafayette would mean “mailing a letter or bill across town would take four to five days“. What’s puzzling is that in a previous story, the paper quoted an APWU official as saying that working the mail in Alexandria “allows mail delivery to anywhere in Louisiana except New Orleans in one day”.
Now that’s odd- it only takes a day to get mail from this place to anywhere in the state, but it takes four or five days to get it back from a plant 88 miles away? If you were a reporter, wouldn’t you find that a bit questionable? Apparently not in Alexandria.

More on “President’s Day”
Hendrik Hertzberg was being facetious sarcastic in the New Yorker piece we linked to yesterday when he suggested that Fox News look into the “War on Washington’s Birthday“, but apparently the Manchester Union-Leader takes the whole thing seriously! The Union-Leader, one of the few news organizations that is actually further to the right than Fox News (and only slightly to the left of say, Benito Mussolini), ties President’s Day in with the “secularization of Christmas” and the general decline of Western Civilization.
The bottom line seems to be that holidays are not supposed to be enjoyable- we’re apparently supposed to spend them in quiet reflection on the contributions of the person being honored, rather than skiing, shopping, or other Un-American Activities.
What can you say to someone like that?
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!
