League surveys Postmasters (and the rest of the world) about their working conditions
The League of Postmasters is asking its members to take a survey on working conditions. The introduction tells the PMs that “Your responses, along with responses from Postmasters from all over America, will help us to measure the work climate in districts nationwide. This will give us data to use when consulting with Postal Headquarters regarding a variety of issues.”
The only problem is that the survey is open to anyone who goes to the web site, which would seem to make the data just a bit suspect? (Note: We’re not revealing any deep secrets here- the link to the survey is posted on the front page of the League’s very public Postmasters.org web site.)

The top of the USPS should start listening to the rank and file. Stop living in an insulated world, a bubble!

I really can’t belive how really bad it has gotten with Postmaster Potter. He makes the story “Wonderful Life” starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed be a reality! It’s really turned in to Potterville!I have seen Express Mail set on the shelves for over 3 months!Certified letters set 3-4 months!P.O. Box mail set on the Floor at my Station 2-3Days!I’m talking about 1st Class Mail!I wished this was untrue but it is not!Service is at the absolute worse I have seen in my 28 years with the Postal Service.

one huge problem is that management as a whole still cant understand that they are a huge COST to the postal service.they blame the cost of labor on why were losing money when in reality, they do route eliminations and take the eliminated route and break it up and put more on the already ovreburdened carriers.20 years ago we had 1 supervisor and the office ran like a swiss watch.now we have 4 sometimes as many as 6 supervisors that stand around telling less carriers to do more work.can someone explain how this is helping the postal service??????????????

I was one of those employees that thought they would work until I could not work anymore. Now as a Postmaster I am working 6 days and sometimes 10 hr days. One of my employees retired and they decided not to replace her even though my staffing evaluation was done and it says I have 10 hrs of work every day for clerks. i do not mind working a sat here and there to allow the clerk to take annual leave, but this consistant work, work, work is killing me. I was told since automation will be coming into my office, that they will n ot grant authorization for another clerk. I am now ready to take any early out. They have turned me into a full time clerk and leaving me no time to complete my administrative duties, many of which are mandatory. This is the way businesses run – I don’t think so…

This survey was created by a NAPUS Postmaster and the other tiny organization stole it with out his approval. The survey was sent out to all postmasters in the Northeast Area as a sign of unity. The leaders of the legue should be ashamed.

NAPUS really needs to keep up with The League in their “Breaking News”. As I recall, the last time NAPUS updated was July 23rd? Correct me if I’m wrong.
September 6th, 2008 02:40
To Plagerism: You know what the real problem is? We need to unite; that is NAPUS & The League. And by the way, The League is not a “tiny organization”. Ever been to one? So NAPUS has more people. Sometimes the Best Church is a Smaller Church. More one-on-one time., et al.
And you think the other tiny org. cannot create their own “survey”? Get me 10 minutes. I’ll give you a survey that will get down to the nitty-gritty.
A lie is a lie – even if everyone thinks it’s the truth.
The truth is the truth – even if everyone thinks it’s a lie.
Peace now.

Jerry Scott, this is un-called for POOR SERVICE. Sounds to me like your Postmaster needs to get out there and box some mail; then sit down and write up second notices. The Express Mail issue..please!!! Uncalled for. Or bring in extra help, If it were my Office, I’d get the job done daily (and I don’t mean working off the clock and not turning in the hours). Justification: CUSTOMER SERVICE. That IS our last name: United States Postal SERVICE, and the POOM /DM could chew me out during all the telecons, and I would respectfully say, “Well, I’m getting the job done and not delaying first class”, etc. Just think if a piece of that mail was a check or a money order for the recipient to get on with their life, like catch a plane or train for medical treatment (just an example) and here it’s been sitting on the floor of the P O un-delivered. I would be ashamed, very ashamed.
We get to get back to our roots. Providing SERVICE.

I read all the comments about the survey. This survey was NOT created by a Napus Postmaster but by the League and was then shared with Napus.
No point in bashing the League here. It’s a great organization and the League and Napus have made great strides working together this year.
Shame on YOU for posting such an untruth Plagerism. I’m sure that they Napus leaders would not appreciate your comments either.
Thank you League for putting out this survey.

The League and Napus have most recently been working closely together for Postmaster’s rights and for the good of the Postal Service. It’s a big step in the right direction. Unfortunately, partisanship still exists. Rather than wasting energy on infighting…who’s bigger, who’s better, who came out with whatever first, we need to right the wrongs that the Postal Service continues to force feed Postmasters.

I LIKE TOAST!

Concerned, you are very wrong in your comments. Trust me, I know because I am the one who wrote the original survey and distributed it in the Northeast Area. Please get your facts straight before you post.
