Area offices to reduce staffing levels
From USPS Newsbreak:
As the national economy continues to decline, the Postal Service finds that it must continue rightsizing its workforce. Today reductions in authorized staffing levels were announced for the nine Area offices. This move follows a similar reduction at Headquarters and Headquarters-related offices which was announced last fall.
With this action, complement at Area Offices has been reduced – some vacant positions have been eliminated, while other occupied positions are impacted. Starting this week, employees occupying impacted positions will be notified and given information and guidance.
Starting February 24, a series of job postings will be opened to place qualified employees in vacant positions. Area employees interested in competing for these vacancies, impacted or not, are urged to create a profile now by accessing http://ecareer.usps.gov on LiteBlue. Some additional positions will become vacant as a result of regular and voluntary retirements.
Additional information will be communicated as it becomes available. Details also will be posted on the Organization Change Management website starting the week of February 2nd and updated on an ongoing basis.

So they go from 200 supervisors to 199 and call it a reduction. Crafts look out because your the ones who the area is going after, they will look at their losses last, not first.

There is no need for area management. Districts are capable to report directly to HQ.

Reduction? Worker bees? Except our station who can’t staff clerks, holds up 60+ carriers daily because we have 4 clerks, 2 te’s but only 2 semi- scheme trained……..but now we are going to hire “casual” clerks. Really? you can’t get the mail out, accountable/registered/cage is truly a joke but you had better not miss an msp scan. This whole place misses the the point. SERVICE. And I need a supervisor that is a support staff for that service not a raging harridan that thinks I am going to make her bogus numbers for her.
POtter should include in his “transpanency” the amount spent, by station, by supervisior, district and nationally on grievances!! AND WHY.

Reduction at HQ? Really? The Facility Services Office which works out of Headquarters and are situated in Area Offices went through a reorganization last fall and not one person lost their job, in fact they added people. HQ staffing reductions are a sham, HQ wants to balance the books by getting rid of Area/District and craft employees. They do not want to lose their gravy jobs while the rest of us have REAL accountability and responsibility.

Potter has lost the sight and vision needed for the USPS to thrive in the 21st century. With a freeze on hiring, the office that I left (via VERA) will not be able to cover two supervisor positions, maybe they will never be filled. The unit has one supervisor, one manager and whatever 204B who will volunteer to accomodate the needs of a delivery and retail unit comprising of 61 routes, both city and rural, and 115 employees. I know there will be no one to cover the position that I left, let alone the position that I was covering in the meantime, another supervisor that was promoted to another associate office. Surely, there will be NO staff reductions at HQ…the sacred L’Efant Plaza…please.

There are always times that need to see a reshuffeling of the deck. Most of the time the dead wood is shaken out leaving a leaner meaner company fit to compete in the market place. There is no security in the job market today. There are thousands and thousands of employees that have lost their jobs to coperations that move over seas. Be thankful that you still have a job.
What we should be doing on the banking bailout is to bring all those jobs lost to over seas employment back to the US. Contact your government officals and let them know that there is no bailout for over seas jobs.
