USPS reinstates employee awards program

A message on the NAPS member forum says that the postal service has “lifted the suspension of employee recognition and incentive awards”. The message is accompanied by a copy of a letter from HR VP Anthony Vegliante, dated September 28, which also announced that the USPS automated incentive program, eAwards, would be available once again. The incentive program had been suspended when the agency’s financial situation worsened.

Another posting on the NAPS boards suggests changes are imminent for USPS employees involved in Financial Control & Support, Purchasing and Material Management, and Stamp Distribution. Stay tuned.

This is the REAL postal incentive program. When a supervisor gets arrested for shoplifting, he/she get transferred AND promoted. When a supervisor gets his name in the newspaper for soliciting prostitutes, he gets transferred & promoted. Who says crime doesn’t pay??? Not the Post Office-no wonder they lost 7 billion last year, the MOST inept & incompetent company, if the public only “REALLY” knew what goes on!!

It’s mostly just a reward for their pet’s. I did a job for several decades that was extra besides my own job. Never any recognition. Didn’t expect any. A young gal comes in does it for several weeks and gets the superior achievement award with the $250 check. I never did the job again. Typical PO.

this is exactly why Congress should let the PO fall… all upper-level management should be fired.

In Los Angeles, as long as you have a certain surname you will be sure to get an award. My manager doesn’t even try to hide his prejudice. Why go beyond the call of duty when the manager gives PTF’s award with a certain “surname”.

yes I agree change is needed. No business on the planet would allow the productivity short comings that are allowed in the USPS. Unions have been outstanding in negotiating contracts where employees have no work standards required and get paid at a rate the is second to none.

The unions were extremely good at what they did, but it appears they have been too good and have killed the goose that laid the golden egg.

    Ironic,

You humilate, threaten, mock, and suspend employee’s as some type of burden, liars and thieves to the organization for years….. and now this?

Upcomes your survival which depends on whom is left,to run the operation ‘were buddies again’???
Because the Government won’t bail you out again.
    Haaa….Post Office!
Not only have you defaced your employee’s whom at one time were proud, productive workers, but you have done the same to mailing public, bulk mailers etc,….Why????

    My Opinion is this:
    1.Managers-whom cannot manage people.
2.Purchaser’s who buy buildings, vehicles, equipment, from their buddies, relatives or friend, willie the slick saleperson.
3.And last you look down your noses at suggestions by employee’s as if they just come down from the hills.
YOU won’t dare come down to the trenches to see, learn and recieve for “Free’ opinions from the employee’s.
Oh sure, 96% might be hogwash, stupid & complaints, but that 4% could save you millions!!!

When did the financial situation in the USPS improve.
Oh, Congress did not require the USPS to make its mandated payment to the retirement fund this year.
Now, I can treat my “pets” to rewards. Didn’t anyone
see how Mr. Letterman rewarded his pet slut.

eRewards is a program. It deos not guarantee anyone any money. Some requests the award and it must be approved. I know in our District no one is getting any awards. No one is approving money for that. Don’t get upset until you personally know of soneone getting extra money.

We had one carrier get a check for being the best dressed. We all wear the same thing! That weekend this female management and the carrier went on vacation together. What I want from them doesn’t effect the budget – respect.

This is the only vehicle managment has to reward craft people who are willing to work. If we could fire mostly all the union people who are too busy looking for ways NOT to work, we would have money in the bank.

We are so top heavy it’s not even funny! They cut some mgt. jobs in our office, and gave them other jobs. Just cause you are union doesn’t mean you’re a slacker. There are some, but the majority pull there weight and more. They keep asking more of us, clerks and carriers, but what is management doing to keep us afloat. I don’t see it. I hate to see anyone lose there job, but at least do something to help our company. We do so many things that are a waste. What do scan points do? nothing! We do not have a blank check anymore, I wish someone would wake up!!!

USPS lost $721 million in August

The postal service has published unaudited financial results for the month of August showing a net loss of $721 million for the month, resulting in a fiscal year to date loss of $6.3 billion with one month left to report. Mail volume continued to decline, coming in at 13.2% below August a year ago. The steepest declines continued to be in standard mail, down 18.4%, periodicals, down 14.2%, and package services, down 18.1%. First class volumes were down by 7.8%.

Total revenue was down by just under a half billion dollars for the month, and down by $5.9 billion for the year to date. Expenses were reduced by 10.6% for the month, but are down by just 2.7% for the year to date, a reduction of less than $2 billion.
Awards program for supervisors, makes sense to me!!

The letter carriers (the ONLY employees) are held to time standard. If you worked for the post office, you would know that.

Carriers yes, but what is your percent to standard? You set the pace, do you not? Plus when you’re walked with, do you not also set your street times? Carriers are close but not anywhere near what UPS requires. In the UPS work rules, management sets them, not he employee though his demonstrated work performance.
Now clerks and mail handlers have no standards. If they’re moving at all, they are vertually untouchable. This is from a 28 year USPS employee.

I have worked for the PO for 27 years. I have put out a house fire stop the water runnig out of a broken pipe picked up an elderly gentleman when he fell and could not get up and had been down for about 2 hours and have had about 25 letters from customers stating how I go beyond the call of duty for them. then an employee who has two months with our office gets an award. what a joke the award system is. thats ok I did not do all those things for an award anyway and would do them again to help my customers

Employee rewards…LOL. There are enough employees who are rewarded everyday.. They work the bear minimum, call in sick and god forbid do anything extra or fast. I feel they’re rewarded by JUST having a job that pays $50,000 a year. Reward those of us who give a damn when the carriers get on the street, or the line is out the door and we go as fast as we can..Management just seems to take those people for granted and expects more. Thank you to all those clerks who do care so that we may have a job 10 years from now.

Thank you for caring about your job. Thanks to everyone who cares about their job. We are the ones that will keep the Post Office going. It doesn’t matter if we are in management or in the craft. The hardworkers who are here to do the best job they can do is how we continue to make it through the day. I wish there were more of us and fewer of the ones that think a doctor’s note will enable them to do an 8 hour job in 10 for the overttime since their nice hourly or salaried pay is apparently not enough.

In spite of it’s imperfections, the postal service is the best place on this planet to work. In my 31 years with the postal service I have worked with a lot of bad apples that gives the po a bad rap. But the po has never had a lay off, always met payroll, negotiated with the unions in good faith and treats it’s employee’s with dignity and respect. For those of you that have problems with managment or the way the system is run, why not find a job elsewhere? For those that want to see the system fail or go private, be careful what you ask for. Think about all the industries that were deregulate…the railway…telecommunications….airlines. A lot of people got rich when those industries were deregulated but a lot of lives were destroyed. And that will surely happen if the postal service fails or goes private.

I have always found the postal service incentive awards to be issued to employess who have a certain sick leave balance. There are employees with plenty of sick leave who are lousy workers. They have the mindset that an employee that comes to work is a good employee. Not neccessarily so. Then on the other hand, you may have an excellent worker, who through circumstances out of his or her control have a sick leave balance that is lacking. IT’S NOT ENOUGH TO JUST COME TO WORK!!!!!!!

I work as a carrier/204b, so I get to see both sides. I don’t think either side realizes how hard the other actually works and probably never will. Most craft employees work very hard and are good people. The few bad apples give everyone else a bad name. If they weren’t lucky enough to have passed test and got excellent paying job with benefits and virtually no way of getting fired, they would certainly be sitting home getting welfare checks. As far as mgmt. goes it’s the same thing. And those few bad apple craft employees make it very difficult to there job without getting frustrated and having to dump work on the other hard working people in their office which then further de-motivates the good workers. Bottom line is if you are unable to fire anyone do to union protection or mgmt. protecting their own, nothing will change. Let’s just be thankful and happy that we are all employed. Have you been to Detroit lately? Could very easily happen to all of us!

Awards? What are awards for? I always thought they were for doing a good job at something. Isn’t that what they are supposed to be for? I have been a PMR for 9 years, helped out 10 PMs when they were between PMRs or their PMR was unable to work, I have been an OIC without a PMR yet did my best to keep from working overtime. Became an OIC because of a bad situation in an office and kept finding more things wrong and have worked my backside off to fix them. I keep trying to find ways to improve things in order to make my office more efficient, am doing my best to keep scores as high as possible. I am available for anyone who needs help locally. What more can I do? Am I asking for some award/reward? NO…just let me know I am doing a good job…give me a call, a letter, an e-mail; anything to let me know I am doing as I should…I don’t need anything of monetary value except a bi-weekly pay day that involves more than 3 or 4 hours per week!

My one award/reward is the customers asking me to stay in their office because I treat them right! Who could ask for more? I am willing to do this job from now on at the OIC rate, I don’t need $25 or more per hour. I will take what I am getting and be thankful, which is more than most.

I had a solid 8 hour route that management made into 8 1/2 hours because I have to sort my business mail on the road. Which means handling the same mail 10 – 20 times because they are all have the same address. Now I get overtime daily and no extra deliveries I would like to have my postmaster deliver the route and I doubt he would be able to do it in the same time and he wouldn’t be any quicker. If we were allowed to do the job the way we wanted there would be no overtime
