I wholeheartedly concur with the five day letter mail delivery plan, but many issues need to be addressed. The plants processing mail need to learn what they should already know, and do a much better job of processing classes of mail for Monday delivery. Bulk mail should be timed that it would be spread out over the entire week so that employees won’t be delivering mail until the early evening hours. This absolutely must be addressed and plans must be adhered with. The savings on vehicle maintenanced and gas alone will probably be in the hundreds of millions. If that savings is then put back into overtime, how is that beneficial. Further, special delivery must be maintained on the weekends and in the month of December packages should also be handled different than throughout the rest of the year. The Post Office needs to offer a VERA similiar to other crafts so that some carriers make the transition easier. If done properly, I doubt you would see any loss of jobs other than through retirement. It would also benefit the Post Office to look at all light/limited duty employees and perhaps offer them inside positions so that the craft will have a fuller complement to actually deliver the mail. Raising the cost of postage is never acccepted but nobody in their right mind could complain about a two cent increase. Finally, perhaps the PO should consider changing city routes to being more efficient similiar to rural routes. Not all employees are created equal but most carriers are aware of expectations and what needs to be done, they should have the freedom of proving it. More self evaluated routes would truly mean less middle supervisors, which by the way all EAS employees should be salaried with zero overtime. You currently have level 17′s making more than level 20′s due to the fact that the 20 is a salaried position. Just a small look at some things that need to be addressed, I could go on but it would be more of a manual then a brief look. Here’s hoping things change as I personally have fifteen years minimum before I can retire. Good Luck!
What about the thousands of people that will be out of a job. Lets ad more people to the unemployment line and hurt this nation more by hurting the post our founding fathers envisioned hundreds of years ago.
You also take away that competative advantage that our competition does not have. Saturdays. If we do not do it some one will.
“Trim the fat” your business is failing as an executive do you continue to eat lavish meals. Take fancy “business trips.” OR take that bonus. A bonus is meant for running a business well right? PROFITS=BONUS. Not in this case. There putting more nails into the coffin. What is easy is not always right.

towns and the great majority of Americans. For the sake
of Mr. Potter and his fat cat management pals, going to
five days means saving their six figure jobs – the carriers
are not the problem – cut the white collar clowns that do
not touch the mail and the USPS can make money. thanks!
ups and other delivery compainies that show a profit do not deliver on saturday,the reason a republican would want us to keep saturday is to continue to lose money, then they can go after our wages and benifits. wake up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anybody with a brain should realize the U.S.P.S. has been in existance since day 1 (1775). Start messing with the only universal service available to every address in the U.S. 6 days a week & the compounding of problems will never end. It needs to start at the top, Potter you make more than the president, that’s horses&%t!! Then let’s talk about all your assistant to the assistant to the…. All we need in the service is workers, not the 1000′s of deadbeat management personal that crowds every Post Office & L’Enfant Plaza. CONGRESS WAKE UP!! investigate fraud, abuse in mangement, trim the fat. I have 32 yrs in as a damn good employee (worker) & I can’t wait to get the hell out.
