OIG seeks vendor for internet based nationwide video surveillance system for postal facilities

The US Postal Service’s Inspector General is looking for vendors interested in upgrading the service’s current video monitoring systems to a nationwide internet based system:

The USPS OIG has undertaken a project to upgrade existing analog Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems to an IP based camera system known as the Integrated Security and Investigative Platform (ISIP). The ISIP is to be deployed at USPS facilities nationwide in order to provide OIG Special Agents with enhanced video surveillance capabilities of activities occurring within USPS facilities.

As a maintenance worker in a large office, I’d love to see all 24 hour box section lobbies fitted with these cameras. Since most offices do not have employees there between 7pm and 3:30am, vandals and older youth do everything from dump trash cans out, tear wallpaper off the wall, throw eggs on walls and post office boxes and just generally deface the 24 hour box section lobbies. This is long overdue for our lobbies.
I’m sure the postal service reason for the cameras is to watch employees on the workroom floor and sales associates at the window but if it includes adding these cameras to our lobbies, I’m for it!

Seems like a huge expensive project for a company in such dire financial straits. Continue attrition as retirements come about, go to 5 day delivery, and downsize upper management positions. USPS is such a vital part of our nation, we must look at practical and reasonable ideas to continue to be the most admired service company in the world!
