Metro Detroit letter carrier charged with stealing mail
TweetDetroit — Federal officials have recovered thousands of pieces of undelivered mail from the early 1990s and charged a former Metro Detroit letter carrier with stealing mail.
Earl Newton Hicks, 66, had retired to Florida when the U.S. Postal Service's Office of Inspector General caught up with him this month, according to records filed today in U.S. District Court in Detroit.
Hicks told investigators that at one point the garbage bags full of undelivered mail he accumulated were placed at the curb and nearly sent to the dump.
