Congressman Lynch opposes 5 day delivery, backs online mail choice program

Congressman Stephen Lynch, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Service and the District of Columbia, has told a local newspaper that he opposes the USPS plan to eliminate Saurday mail delivery. Lynch suggests the postal service look at other ways to save money:

Lynch also chairs the subcommittee that oversees the Post Office, and he’s opposed to the Postmaster General’s plan to save money by eliminate Saturday delivery. He favored closing some post offices to cut costs instead. Another way to save money would be a online program to let citizens choose which mail gets physically delivered to their homes.“You go on your computer and look at your mail, and you click on what you don’t want delivered,” Lynch said. “That’s the wave of the future.”

What an idiot. How does the Post Office save money by encouraging people not to use it’s product?

Congressman Lynch’s online mail choice program would delay the mail needlessly. There is such a small time frame involved – if someone mails a letter to you in your city today at 4 pm, it could be in your mailbox as early as 10 am tomorrow. Where does the image capture of the mail fit into this timeframe, not to mention allowing time for the customer to log in and look at their mail? Where will the millions of dollars that it would cost for this type of online system come from?

    Dear Congressman Lynch,
We are losing over a billion
    dollars a month. We need
    big solutions not politically
    safe ideas.

Simply says that USPS must be a shipping option when ordering online. Ups & FedEx are using USPS infrastructure to process delivery to rural areas already. It’s called last mile service.

I agree, what an idiot, no mail delivery means no money for the post office.
What an idiot, but what else would you expect from our wonderful elected officials.
Remember November 2nd. VOTE – them out.

Expense needs to be reduced to carry the post office into the future. Eliminating a day of delivery would be a good place to start. Technology will take more and more mail away, so why not cut costs by way of eliminating a day of delivery that the majority of people obviously do not care about anyway.

“Eliminating a day of delivery would be a good place to start.”

Unless, of course, your job is one of the positions eliminated.

i spoke to stephen lynch about allowing civil service employees to retirer now leaving with them a lump sum check of the monies we have put into the fund and reducing the retirement by the % required. Thus the usps would not cost them a cent. This was done o nce before so it is doable
and a lot of people would retire thus saving money.this is something that can be done now.The ship is sinking fast and get people off the payroll is in my view the only goos option at this time.

The USPS is losing money because it has been grossly mismanaged, first, under Henderson, then, under Potter, neither of whom have had an original idea other than to say, tell those supervisors to give more discipline-I don’t care for what.

Make Donald Trump the Postmaster General for one year. He will have it running in the black and solve the labor problems much faster than EEOC or MSPB.

Allow him to fire the management disgraces on National TV, after stating what they’ve done. Far more fun than “Undercover Boss.” Seeing that, the public will be amazed that mail actually gets to their door. No, the problem here is NOT with the rank and file. Look to the top!

Donald Trump? Well, he does have experience in going bankrupt, that’s for sure- three times I believe? Trump’s success hasn’t come from managing actual businesses- it’s come from real estate deals and being a TV personality.
