Former USPS Vice President found gulty of assaulting plant manager
TweetJerry D. Lane, the former USPS Vice President for the Capitol Metro Area, was found guilty on misdemeanor assault charges in Loudoun County, Virginia District Court on Thursday, and was fined $300. Lane was arrested on June 1 after police were called to the postal service’s Dulles Processing and Distribution Center. The Washington Post reported at the time that “Lane, based in Gaithersburg, visited the Dulles Processing and Distribution Center in Sterling on June 1 and allegedly argued with the center’s manager, Kathleen J. Michaels. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at the building about 2 p.m., spokesman Kraig Troxell said. Michaels filed misdemeanor assault charges June 3, and Lane was issued a summons to appear in Loudoun General District Court… Postal Service spokesman Gerald McKiernan said Lane “separated” from the agency June 3, but he would not say whether Lane was fired or had resigned, citing personnel policy and privacy concerns. The Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General has launched an internal investigation, said Dan Mihalko, a spokesman for the office.”

“Postal Service spokesman Gerald McKiernan said Lane “separated” from the agency June 3, but he would not say whether Lane was fired or had resigned”. Isn’t zero tolerance clear? Postal Employee Lane should have been fired. Lawyers everywhere should be filing class-action suits for all fired former employees (via zero tolerance). USPS liability should be cashed on, even if former employees don’t benefit. Payback is a right!

He would have had to be convicted before they could fire him. So, he probably resigned immediately to avoid being fired.

Non-ya you are wrong.Nobody has to be convicted in court in order to be dismissed for zero tolerance.

Like ex-gov/pres cand. Mike Dukakis said the fish rots from the head down, this is their culture !

He was probably given a cash buyout and told to retire immediately. When do you ever see someone at that level have to resign. They alway take care of there own.It will be revealed in the OIG investigation.

As usual, someone who is on top at our beloved Postal Service gets away with more then the honest rank and file. What is also missing from this story is the facts of Lane dating the person who he fought with. So, he is also guilty of sexual harassment , having ‘relations’ with a lower subordinate and carnal knowledge. What should happen to him is what they do to clerks and carriers…. hang the bum out to dry, with years of motions and court.

Notice how the Inspectors don’t/didn’t do squat. They won’t either. Any assault on federal property automatically becomes a Felony, which has to reported to FBI yearly, The inspection service does not file reports on these to decrease felonies reported nationwide.
This Managerial attitude is perpetuated by Potter and the VPs, Bully your employees.

Ralf, I don’t know where you are getting your information but you are wrong. Any incident is documented. Not all assaults on Postal Property automatically become felonies. Law enforcement officers/agents don’t get to decide which assaults are accepted for federal or state prosecution. In this case, it appears the victim filed charges on her own behalf, and there was no need for anyone else to file charges. So, as you put it, Inspectors didn’t really need to do “squat”. They weren’t the first ones called and the guy was already arrested. I don’t know all the specifics, but if there were no witnesses, then it is really all up to the judge and whose story he believes. I could go on and on on this with factual information, but I’ll quit while I’m ahead.
