LOS ANGELES, CA — (MARKET WIRE) — May 23, 2011 — Zumbox, the leader in digital postal mail services, today announced at CS Week the availability of its Zumbox Digital Postal Mail Gateway (DPM Gateway), a secure network appliance that will automatically and securely deliver postal mail via a digital channel to consumer households. Once the gateway is installed and configured, mailers simply direct their print stream to the DPM Gateway installed inside their corporate firewall. This allows mailers to achieve paper suppression targets, reduce postage and other mailing related costs and improve customer communications.

Designed for large organizations that send transactional mail to consumer households, the DPM Gateway provides direct, secure access to the Zumbox postal network. The appliance manages digital delivery with a simple interface, without the need for custom IT integration work. It delivers detailed reporting about mail recipient usage, including paperless requests, views, payments, printing and discards.

By diverting files headed to print, mailers can immediately push 100% of their files to Zumbox for delivery. This provides the lowest cost possible for delivery to the Zumbox postal network. Delivery of digital postal mail is free. Mailers only pay when users suppress paper, ensuring that any cost comes from real savings.

“A cost-saving alternative to paper mail, digital postal mail has been adopted and deployed by many leading technology and print service providers in conjunction with other physical channels,” said John Payne, CEO of Zumbox. “We’re now seeing demand for increased savings by large mailers who operate their own mail centers. This appliance is the perfect solution for them, enabling large mailers to offer a digital delivery channel to consumers that dramatically increases paper suppression rates and lowers postage costs.”

The DPM Gateway achieves three goals for in-house production mailers: (a) rapid, low-cost deployment with almost no IT resources required, (b) a highly secure, encrypted channel for digital distribution accessed inside the corporate network rather than “in the wild” over the Internet and (c) powerful reports and APIs that provide insight into paper suppression, consumer interactions and other consumer mail response and usage details.

Digital postal mail is an exact facsimile of paper mail, created from a diversion of the print stream before it reaches a mailing system. Zumbox archives and presents mail to consumers in a secure, central online environment, instead of on paper, forever, for free. Zumbox has created a digital mailbox for every street address in the US, connecting large transactional, financial and government mailers to consumer households for the secure, on-time delivery of postal mail online. Ultimately, Zumbox gives consumers increased flexibility in where and how they receive, manage and store their postal mail.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark– Zumbox announced today that it will showcase the latest version of its Zumbox digital postal platform at Post-Expo 2010 in Copenhagen. In addition, the company’s CEO, John Payne, will speak during the conference at the World Postal Business Forum, organized in association with the Universal Postal Union, with a presentation entitled “Physical or digital postal mail – same address for delivery.”

In May of 2010, Zumbox announced the availability of its Zumbox Platform as a locally deployable, carrier grade, white label software solution for license by postal authorities and commercial entities worldwide. In August, Zumbox introduced the next major version of its Zumbox Platform, Zumbox 2.0, which includes High Volume Transactional Output APIs, the Zumbox Mobile Reader and other new capabilities that are now available under the Zumbox Platform licensing program.

Additionally, in recent months Zumbox has announced important agreements with DST Output, a leading provider of print and electronic output solutions, Crawford Technologies, a leader in print-stream transformation and document re-engineering software solutions, and GovDelivery, the leading provider of government-to-citizen communication solutions. These partnerships represent major milestones in further developing Zumbox’s digital postal system in the United States.

“Our focus on street address based digital mail systems enables a gradual migration by mailers and consumer recipients,” said John Payne, CEO of Zumbox. “Most businesses have 100% of the street addresses of their customers and less than 20% of their email addresses, many of which are bad. Digital postal mail directed by street address is a logical migration for postal agencies as a complement to their core, paper delivery offerings.”

As part of the World Postal Business Forum, organized in association with the Universal Postal Union, Mr. Payne will explore in more detail the importance of street addresses in digital postal services in a session titled “Physical or digital postal mail – same address for delivery” on Friday, October 8, 2010, followed by a panel discussion.

To schedule a meeting at Post-Expo with Zumbox or for other inquiries regarding the Zumbox Platform, please contact Adam Schneider, VP and General Manager of Zumbox Software at adam@zumbox.com.

CrawfordTech Announces Immediate Availability of Zumbox Enablers to Help Clients Quickly Implement Digital Postal Mail Delivery to Any U.S. Residential Address

TORONTO & WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Crawford Technologies Inc., a leader in print-stream transformation and document re-engineering software solutions, and Zumbox, the leader in digital postal mail services, today announced a partnership to provide Zumbox enablers that will enable digital delivery via Zumbox as an integrated alternative output channel for their customers. The CrawfordTech Zumbox enablers will make it fast and simple for print service providers and large mailers to take advantage of digital delivery via Zumbox due to the enablers’ ability to support Xerox Metacode/LCDS, AFP, Postscript, PDF, PDF/A, PCL and Line data print streams.

CrawfordTech’s President, Ernie Crawford, will be speaking about how organizations with legacy print streams can leverage new technologies and output alternatives like digital postal mail during his “Legacy Print Streams: What’s the Big Deal?” session tomorrow, September 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Document Strategy Forum in Chicago, IL.

By offering digital postal mail output, mailers can benefit from enhanced paper suppression programs that deliver cost savings of as much as 75% compared to production and delivery of paper mail. Print service providers gain a competitive advantage by adding digital postal mail to their portfolio of paper suppression solutions and benefit from a shift of relatively low gross margin print and mail solutions to much higher gross margin data services.

“Making it easy for our customers to implement digital postal mail as an alternative output stream is an exciting enhancement to our overall solutions,” said Ernie Crawford, President of Crawford Technologies. “Digital postal mail enables large cost savings, a “green program” and improved customer communications for mailers and an important new product offering for print service providers that use our solutions.”

Digital postal mail is an exact facsimile of paper mail – created from a diversion of the print stream before it reaches a large mailing system – that is presented and archived digitally for consumers in a secure, central online environment instead of on paper. Digital postal mail is environmentally friendly, creates significant cost savings for mailers and provides consumers with a simple, time-saving and convenient channel to receive, interact with and archive their household postal mail forever, for free.

“The Zumbox enablers from CrawfordTech will vastly simplify implementation of digital postal mail,” said John Payne, CEO “The ability to quickly deploy digital postal mail with low integration costs and fast time to market will be a great benefit.”

By offering a complete solution for the delivery and storage of digital postal mail, Zumbox eliminates the need for mailboxes, file drawers and bankers boxes with a central, secure digital repository for mail and documents based upon household residence address.

CrawfordTech, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, produces award-winning software used by numerous international government agencies and the world’s leading banking, insurance, telecommunications, utilities and service provider companies.

The Zumbox enablers are available immediately from CrawfordTech.

Westlake Village, CA – August 24, 2009 – Zumbox, the world’s first and only paperless postal system, today announced the closing of its Series A funding with a total of $8 million raised. Investors include Art Bilger (Managing Member of Shelter Capital Partners, LLC) Rick Braddock (Chairman and CEO of Fresh Direct and former Chairman and CEO of Priceline.com), Michael Eisner (Founder of The Tornante Company and former CEO of The Walt Disney Company), Bill Guthy (founding principal of Guthy-Renker) and Donn Rappaport (CEO of Zumbox and Founder and Chairman of ALC).

Zumbox has created a web-based platform that powers the world’s first paperless postal system. The company has created a digital mailbox – a Zumbox – for every street address in the country. Postal mail can now be sent as digital files and received online, with no paper, printing or postage, and no scanning.

Zumbox represents the first practical alternative to traditional postal systems. By using Zumbox, businesses and other organizations not only enjoy significant reductions in their mailing costs, but also substantially reduce their environmental impact. Consumers enjoy greater convenience as well as a richer mail experience by accessing their mail online, going paperless, and receiving multimedia content in an entirely new and innovative way. Zumbox also represents an important alternative to commercial e-mail. Zumbox is secure (it is a closed system with bank-level security); it is based on an individual’s permanent street address as opposed to his or her e-mail address (providing greater accountability and reliability); it offers rich media capabilities; and Zumbox is spam-free.

“Despite a severely challenging economic climate, we were able to successfully complete this round of funding,” said Zumbox CEO, Donn Rappaport. “New investors include some of the most well-known and widely-respected names in the technology, marketing and entertainment industries.” Adding, “Zumbox is an idea whose time has come. We see their support as a testament to the fact that the world is ready for this new communications medium.”

Following a successful pilot in New Lenox, IL, Zumbox has exited beta and will launch the first stage of its national rollout starting in Q4 of this year. The company will facilitate delivery of paperless mail to approximately one million households in select markets through partnerships with municipal governments and media companies as well as both national and local mail senders.

“Zumbox has truly created a new communications medium, one that’s certain to be as valuable as it is disruptive,” said Rick Braddock, Chairman and CEO of Fresh Direct. “By combining the unique address system of the USPS with the power of Web 2.0, the company is revolutionizing how content of all types can be distributed, accessed and consumed.”
